Looks Like a Northside Bar Needs to Close

When someone is murdered at your bar, it moves to the top of the list to be closed. It is time to close Club 360.

  1. After the (latest) Ritz Club shooting last year, Charlie Winburn put forth a motion (document #201000801) to change the liquor license guidelines. One change was that a homicide on the premises would result in an automatic denial of the next year's liquor license, effectively shutting down a bar.

I believe the motion has been sitting in the Public Safety Committee ever since and is pending sunset.

The chair of the PS committee is Cecil Thomas. They should contact him instead of signing petitions. I'm not a lawyer but I'm guessing you can't close a business by petition.

  2. Unfortunately liquor licences are controlled by Ohio Liquor Control, who are notorious for not pulling licences from trouble spots like Ritz, etc. The City has little control over liquor licences.

  3. The city doesn't control liquor licenses, but it does have a say in the matter. The police and law departments can file objections to a premise's license and the matter goes to a hearing. If there is evidence of a public safety threat then the license can be denied. I know this happened to an Evanston bar last year.

  4. Also, this might be a good time to consider what effect Ohio HB45 could have in a situation like this.

  5. Can any of these ideas (Ohio HB45 or Councilman Winburn's Motion) be used to help Bradly Pugh, Club Bronz Owner, with his petition to shut down 360?

  6. I feel sorry for some bar owners because they seem ok, they just seem to be in bad locations. The fact that this location has been a bar since about the beginning of time & crap like this never happened indicates it's not the location.
The city/police will work out "security plans". They will strongarm the owners into hiring an off duty police officer, they will cut hours & push for a minimum age of, like, 25. They might tell the owners to install cameras & metal detectors.
In other words they will make it very expensive for these guys to stay in business.

  7. Was this the place that used to be Alchemize?
